Jocelyn Olivier, NMR Creator
I am in the process of learning the art of NeuroMuscular Reprogramming with Master Therapist Jocelyn Olivier.
I sought out this technique because of an issue I had in my own body and it has been invaluable in returning to a pain fee and active lifestyle after hip replacement surgery. I had developed many compensations in my body before the surgery. After the surgery my hip was open and pain free and fully functioning but
my incredibly intelligent body had adopted movement strategies to keep me going when my hip was very dysfunctional. After the surgery those strategies were still in place causing problems elsewhere in the body.
NMR engages in a kinesthetic conversation with the motor control center of the brain to facilitate new learning, replacing damaged imprints created through trauma, injury, surgery or repetitive strain from ergonomically inefficient use patterns. In muscle testing, asking a muscle to resist the application of 2 to 5 lbs of pressure reveals the clarity of the neuromuscular connection facilitation that muscle. When the muscle has become disabled, the body cannot find the neuromuscular connection to respond to the task of resistance against pressure.
In a moment of accident or trauma your body takes an impression and stores a whole new configuration of how to accomplish a certain movement pattern. It is as if it disrupts the existing learned motor pattern you have and installs an "emergency operating system"
A lot of body pains come from your body's dysfunctional movement patterns.
Many times the incidents that created these patterns are old, you didn't notice right away and years later they show up as a problem and you don't even realize where the problem is coming from.
It doesn't matter how long the pattern has been there, the body is always open for new learning.
You can correct neuromuscular patterns at any point in your life.
The body's whole purpose is to adapt and accommodate and learn new things and do the best job for you. When you have something in your body that is not working right your body will produce a pain message. That is where most pain messages are coming from. It doesn't mean that something is pathologically wrong, it just means that something is dysfunctional.
Dysfunctional patterns from past traumas don't correct themselves just from rest or exercise. So many times our strategies for addressing these problems can be inadequate.
NMR actually steps in and addresses the missing link in the rehabilitation process.
Using a combination of NMR and stress reduction techniques to deal with the trauma to your brain when we have a shock or injury, combined with myofascial release, craniosacral and other massage and energy techniques blended together gets results for problems that have been around for a long time and have not responded to other therapies or perhaps progress has been made but has not completed the rehabilitation process.
The unexpected benefits of reducing the energy demand from the support and movement system by improving neuromuscular efficiency are more energy, clearer vision, increased muscle definition through normal activity levels, a normalization of tissue metabolism and more energy for the higher brain functions of creative thought and problem solving.
The focus of NMR is to create better integrated and coordinated bodies; consciously illuminating the kinesthetic blind spots of sensory motor amnesia is a huge step in our conscious evolution toward highly integrated functioning.
